On their last day of school at the honors assembly the eighth graders presented their class gift to the school. In walked the Spartan mascot for St. Mary’s! It can be used at sporting events, Book Fair, assemblies, Field Day, and other opportunities where students and faculty see fit. Miss Sheridan plans to "pull sticks" for which eighth grader wears it. Each student has a stick with their name on it and this is her method for various "jobs". Isabella Nastase was the first to have her stick pulled. The money for the class gift was raised via two school lunches. On days when Bellevue Public is not in school, St. Mary's must figure out a lunch plan. Lunchroom Director Becky Billings allows different classes and clubs to use these lunches to raise money. The Class of 2019 did a sloppy joe lunch and a walking taco lunch, both in the fall. They raised enough money to pay for the mascot, the Class of 2020 shirts they gifted to the seventh graders at the assembly, and an Adopt-A-Student donation. Other gifts have been--St. Francis Statue (2015), St. Mary's School flag (2016), Gaga Ball Pit (2017), and Custom Beverage Coolers (2018). Each of those classes has also supported the Adopt-A-Student program with their leftover funds. This is the first year the class has purchased the class shirts for their successors. Christina Legner, the 8th grade/Alumni liaison worked with the class again to design their "Alumni" shirts. These were gifts from the Alumni Association, distributed at the 8th Grade Banquet on May 17th. This year's shirts were gold with royal blue text. Previous years were Red with White (2014), Blue Tie-dye with Black (2015), Black with Gray (2016), Royal with Gold (2017), and Black with Gold (2018). For more photos click here.
