Advent is a spiritual time of preparation for the “Coming” of Jesus. At. St. Mary’s School we celebrate the four weeks prior to Christmas with a prayer service in the school gym. The students are very much a part of the service where we recognize each week as we light a candle in expectation, hope, joy and purity of Jesus birth. We also learn about St. Nicholas, a bishop who lived in the fourth century. He was a very kind man with a reputation for helping the poor and giving out secret gifts to people in need. He is the man behind Santa Claus. It is a great time of expectation for children both young and old. Santa seems to put a smile on everyone’s face as he makes an appearance at our school.
