Jamie Legner and Callie Billings, class of '15, were both freshman at Gross Catholic (2015-2016), and both stood out on the soccer field. Jamie started Varsity soccer all year. She played defense and her speed made her a real factor in every game. Callie started JV soccer all season and was asked to come play for Varsity in the River Cities Conference (RCC) Tournament, Districts, Sub-State, and State. She played her heart out. Gross Catholic had its best year in sixteen years and set a record for most wins in a season. Their defense, of which Jamie and Callie were a part, was mentioned in numerous news articles. They had 11 shutouts and only allowed 15 goals all season. Gross was third in the RCC. Gross lost to Mercy in the District final, but got a Wild Card for State because of their record. Jamie says: "Getting to State was difficult, but our team deserved it. It was so exciting. I love my team!" They won Sub-State against Waverly in a shootout. They faced Columbus Scotus in the first round at State and won 1-0. Gross then faced Skutt, the eventual Class B Girls State Champions, in the semi finals and lost 0-3. Jamie and Callie were part of a team who also won the Class B Girls Sportsmanship Award for the state tournament, finished 14-5 for the season, and ended up being ranked 4th for Class B Girls. All are looking forward to GCHS Girls Soccer 2017...and there will be another St. Mary's alumna on the roster...Callie's sister Jaycee ('16)!
