An Outdoor Experience of a Lifetime

St. Mary's School 4th and 5th graders had a blast at this year's Outdoor Discovery Expo held at Platte River State Park. PR2The Nebraska Game and Parks Department sponsors this program to help students connect with the great outdoors and did they ever. Our children loved spending the ENTIRE day outdoors learning about small game habitat and hunting, fish anatomy and artwork, trying out their tent set-up skills, finding out how much kick a shotgun has and who could be a future trap shooting champion as well as the surprise stars in archery! For many fourth graders it was a day of "firsts": watching a carp be dissected and then holding its eye and seeing the heart still pumping; shooting air rifles and cooking outdoors some great campfire pizzas and tortillas! They also enjoyed listening to a real outdoorsman who taught them about wood lore and woodcraft. Thank you Nebraska Game and Parks for providing this free program for our students. WE LOVED THE ADVENTURE! For more photos click here.

Our philosophy of education is to offer a five-day program to assist families in teaching those truths, skills, and ideals, which are necessary for Christian living. We believe that education must develop the faculties and abilities of the whole child: spiritually, intellectually, physically, and emotionally.
