Home Team Advantage

St. Mary's hosted its 3rd annual Chess Tournament March 21st and won the First place Team Trophy. North American Martyrs took 2nd and Fairview placed 3rd .The event was a huge success with 108 kids participating, 32 from St. Mary's and 24 schools from around the metro. Our Coach Mike Carney did a fabulous job answering the intricate chess questions of all the budding chess enthusiasts! We had 2 tables of second graders all the way up to 8th grade participating. The gym was packed and there wasn't a peep out of anyone! The chess players were engrossed in the game. Many trophies were awarded to players and 3 team trophies were handed out. Thank you to Kellee Kouba for her great direction spearheading the event and to all the volunteers who helped out. It was a tremendous effort and we could not have done it without all the support. Thanks to Dunkin Donuts on 72nd Street for donating 3-dozen donuts! Everyone loved them! We can't wait to do this again next year! For photos click here.
