Kaitlyn Embury, our gym artist and a '04 alumna of St. Mary's, is an accomplished fine artist who works in oil, charcoal, pencil and watercolors. She works with landscapes, cityscapes, portraits, still life and posters. Her gym murals were a variation from her more traditional fine art mediums. Kaitlyn graduated from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln with a degree in advertising and a minor in fine arts in 2012. She started her career at the Omaha World Herald doing ad layouts. She began doing fine art, portraits, still life, posters and landscapes for friends and family. Soon she was so busy she began charging for her work. Finally, she realized she was spending all of her nights and weekends working on commissioned art. With nearly a year in backlogs, she decided to resign from her ad layout job and get a studio at the Hot Shops next to other artists and begin working full time on her commissions and her own art. She is now expanding to sports and would like to work with Universities to offer prints at their bookstores and fan clothing outlets. She is enjoying the life of an artist and is very proud of her work to bring our gym to life. Kaitlyn is the daughter of Mrs. Embury our 3rd Grade teacher. Join Kaitlyn and the gym mural benefactor Dr. Charmaine Ortega, a '71 St. Mary's alumna, at the Gym Dedication Friday, March 27th at 2:30 in the school gym. Everyone is welcome and refreshments will be served.
