There's no doubt about it, St. Mary's kids, parents and parish community know how to come together to support a mission project! The fifth grade class decided to put their desire to serve others to the test by planning, advertising, baking for and managing a Bake Sale. They were inspired to help our brothers and sisters around the world by a visit from Frans Lang of the Columban Fathers Mission office when she came to speak to our class about mission projects that specifically help children. The students were able to raise almost $450.00 dollars due to their commitment and the support of the parish community. The three Columban Mission Projects that will benefit from their service are a school in Anapra, Mexico, the Cemetery Children in the Philippines and the Pedi-cab Project in the Philippines. The students researched each project and learned about some of the challenges people around the world face. They were so proud to be able to present Fr. Tim Mulroy of the Columban Fathers with a check that will be shared equally among the three areas. The class has written to each mission project coordinator and hopes to hear back from them soon! If you would like to learn more about these children go to Columban.org Our next project will be a clothing drive for the people of South Sudan. STAY TUNED! For photos click here.
