St. Mary's took home first (its first ever!) and third place trophies from this year's Book Bowl held February 6, 2015 at St. Vincent de Paul. Competition was tough among the 24 teams representing Catholic schools in the Omaha area. Our Lady of Lourdes took 2nd place. They had two teams too! Their winning team lost two rounds, one to each of our teams. Other schools rounding out the competition were: St. Columbkille, St. James/Seton (two teams), St. Robert Bellarmine, Mary Our Queen (two teams), Holy Cross (two teams), St. Joan of Arc, St. Bernard, St. Thomas More (two teams), St. Pius/St. Leo, St. Vincent de Paul (two teams), St. Patrick, All Saints, St. Phillip Neri, Holy Name, St. Stephen the Martyr, St. Mary's (two teams). Lia Rose Reckmeyer, Annika Sjostedt, Maggie Heltzel and Cate Lillion won first place. Third place winners are Addey Connealy, Jaycee Billings, Jamie Legner, Paige Holbrook, and Mary Jane DuGuay. Jaycee, a 7th grader, was the only non- 8th grader on the team. The long road to the 10-12 rounds, double elimination Book Bowl began in September, when the nine girls were given twelve different books to read. Then they were given questions to study about the books and practiced together during recess. Miss Carol Sheridan their coach says, "These young ladies worked exceptionally hard, and that work paid huge dividends. They were a fabulous group of students to work with. Thanks for the opportunity to read some wonderful books together." For more photos click here.
