October has been Mission Awareness month and the first graders truly enjoyed learning about families around the world using the mission curriculum from the Columban Fathers. The most important lessons that we learned are that we belong to one big family: God's family, that missionaries are called to share their talents with others, at baptism we are called to live like Jesus and we do not have to travel far to be a missionary. The final lesson involves a prayer service in which the boys and girls renew their baptismal promises, bless themselves with holy water and promise to live like Jesus. How heartwarming to see a group of first grade girls at recess playing the 'Missionary Game'. The students explained that they were saying nice things to others and telling them about God because you can be a missionary wherever you are!
