St Mary's and St. Matthews 4th graders made their annual trek to Lincoln Friday, March 28th. Their first stop was the State Historical Museum where the two groups toured the "First Inhabitants" exhibit as well as the Discovery Station, a hands on center where students could dress up in Native American clothes, sit in a tipi, load a wagon with goods to take on the Oregon Trail, and pretend to camp. Their next stop was the Nebraska state capitol and a free lunch provided by the University of Nebraska Agriculture students who also taught our little "Nebraska farmers". The last stop in Lincoln was Morrill Hall. Parents and students toured the three levels prior to a planetarium show and a photo outside near the woolly mammoth statue. Our Lincoln trip was complete when we stopped at the Holy Family Shrine near Gretna. There we prayed a decade of the rosary and watched the I-80 traffic zoom by. That caused Mrs. Feagan to ask the students to look out the shrine's windows and compare our fast paced lives with those of the early pioneers who struggled to drive their oxen led wagons over the very same hills the students walked and ran upon hundreds of years later. My how times change. For many more photos click here.
