Peter Sarpy and Our Statehood

PeterSarpy1Every year 4th graders from St. Matthews drive over to this side of town to join St. Mary's 4th graders to celebrate "Statehood Day". The actual day fell on a Saturday this year but that didn't stop them from enjoying Nebraska shaped cookies and the state's drink, Kool-Aid, Friday, February 28th. To top off their celebration, Peter Sarpy [aka: Darrell Draper, a storyteller from the Nebraska Humanities Council] enlightened and entertained the students with an interactive history lesson about the history of our great state. He is so good at bringing our state's history to life. All the fourth graders will meet again March 28th for their annual visit to Lincoln. Another one of the highlights of being a 4th grader is to visit the state capitol. For more photos click here.

St Mary's Information

St. Mary's Catholic School is a Pre-Kindergarten through Eighth Grade School of the Archdiocese of Omaha. Our mission is to provide a Catholic education that nurtures students' hearts and minds to become servant leaders in an ever-changing world.

Our philosophy of education is to offer a five-day program to assist families in teaching those truths, skills, and ideals, which are necessary for Christian living. We believe that education must develop the faculties and abilities of the whole child: spiritually, intellectually, physically, and emotionally. To help achieve this, our faculty and staff are an integral part of the formation of Christian community and dedicate themselves to the task of developing Christian citizens.
