A Year of Faith

Ten Webelos from St. Mary's Troop 305 responded to Pope Benedict's call for a Year of Faith in 2013. These young scouts answered the call and learned about Vatican II, who the Popes were that opened and closed the Second Vatican Council, Scout1revand our Omaha Bishops that went to Rome for the Vatican Council. The Webelos, questioned their parents and/or grandparents about their faith, recited the Apostles' Creed, spent an hour at perpetual adoration and received communion after receiving their awards. February 2nd on Scout Sunday, Alex Lee, Nathan Schmitz, Luis Carranza, Zachary Prewitt, Owen Legner,William Vanhuffel, Jack Nutter, Gabe Tweedy, Dane Storch, Sam Wilwerding and Vincent Morales each received a beautiful patch designed by the Diocese of Dodge City, Kansas that commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Second Vatican Council and the 20th anniversary of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. The patch is very special since it was only offered during the Year of Faith. Phil Labadie received the St. George award, which is given to adult scouters for their distinguished service leading toward the spiritual, physical, mental and moral development of youth. Phil is the adult Troop Chaplain with Troop 305 and is a trained Boy Scout Religious Award Counselor who has facilitated classes for nearly all the Catholic Boy Scouting awards for over 10 years. Our scouts will not find a finer example of a man who lives the 12th point of the Scout Law: A Scout is Reverent. For more photos from Scout Sunday click here.
