The Question of Where Wins!

The city of Portland is the eastern terminus for an oil pipeline that connects with Montreal, Canada. Portland is located on Casco Bay in which New England state?

The Potomac River rises in the Allegheny Plateau and empties into what large bay?

Do you know the answers to these questions? These were the final two questions in St. Mary's School Geography Bee.Geog_Bee_Participants Prior to the competition; teachers of grades 4 through 8 held classroom "bees" in order to select finalists for the competition. Each student was asked a variety of questions, prepared by the National Geography Bee, which is endorsed by Alex Trebek of the well-known TV game show "Jeopardy".

Participants included:

8th: Kellie Halliburton/Diego Cox

7th: Ethan Yale/Mary Jane DuGuay

6th: John Donahue/O'Rion Moreno

5th: Akojang Mamer/Fredy Kadjo Gnamb

4th: Lauren Leighow/Nathan Schmitz

Top3WinnersIt came down to the championship round and Kellie Halliburton (8th) answered correctly (Maine, Chesapeake Bay) and was announced as the school's winner. She will now be given a written test and if she does well, she may be selected as one of the one hundred state finalists to compete in May at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Second place honors went to Akojang Mamer (5th) and Ethan Yale (7th) who received 3rd place honors. We are proud of all the participants and look forward to next year's competition. In the meantime, we should all pay attention to the world around us as God has blessed us with many exciting and beautiful places!
