A Botanist's Christmas

The Budding Botanists enjoyed a behind-the-scenes tour of the Lauritzen Garden's greenhouses during their latest field trip. We learned about the environmental needs of different plants and experienced the temperature changes between the various greenhouses. LauritzenChristmasWe also viewed the poinsettia show and learned the names of the plant's red leaves and what causes them to change color. A highlight was viewing the trees that have been decorated with wildlife ornaments. These were beautiful, natural and artistic ways to attract and care for birds and other wildlife during the winter months. The Budding Botanists were able to participate by helping to hang some of the ornaments on one of the trees. Included in the latest newsletter is a flier that tells you how you can participate at home. So grab some oranges, pinecones and peanut butter and spend an afternoon crafting and giving a gift to nature. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from the Budding Botanists!
