"Angry Birds" in Computer Science Sets Us Apart

Code2St. Mary's Bellevue was one of 3 Catholic schools from Nebraska and over 160 countries taking part in the "Hour of Code". The "Hour of Code" is the idea of Hadi Partovi to get 10 million students to try one hour of computer science. Students in Kindergarten through 8th grade celebrated Computer Science Education Week by watching tutorials and programming the movements of an Angry Bird and a Zombie using a drag and drop interface based on computer language. Mrs. Sweeting the technology teacher says, "They learned to think logically in order to plan the character's action, one movement at a time. The students found the activities to be challenging and fun." Many went home to continue the programming as well as try the introductions to other computer languages, like Javascript and Python.
