Nathan Feldmann, a St. Mary's alumni was invited to speak at the Congressional award kick off activities in Elkhorn, Nebraska Saturday with Congressman Lee Terry and Johnny Rogers. Johnny Rogers was a 1972 Heisman Trophy winner from UNL (seen here with Nathan in the Heisman Trophy stance).
Nathan spoke about his experiences in earning his Congressional gold-medal award. He told them the Congressional award is more than a checklist and recounted working with his buddy at Munroe Meyer. By volunteering at Monroe he learned the value in serving and connecting with others, and helping the community.
Nathan said he is continuing to set goals as a sophomore at UNL and grow even though he's no longer working for a medal. He talked about his involvement at the People's City Mission in Lincoln as well as being a member of the Cornhusker Marching Band and the medical student-shadowing program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Then he left the new Congressional Award recipients with a challenge: find a way to serve that's meaningful to you so that your Congressional award experience becomes a part of who you are and that you continue to live that lifestyle long after you reach the gold.
