Fifth grade students had a ball practicing their science lab skills as they explored the cool things that happen when you add a few drops of food color to milk, then add a drop of liquid dish soap.....VOILA! A COLOR EXPLOSION! (Surface tension had a little part in the production!). And who would've thought that using the triple arm balances and whatever you could find in your desk could be that much fun? Finding a PRECISE mass measurement was the goal; they got it! We found a terrific recipe for learning about density - take 16 students, 4 graduated cylinders, 3 different liquids, and some food coloring (just for the "OHHHH, COOL! effect). Mix thoroughly. Let simmer for about 20 minutes and you get 16 students that understand the fundamentals of mass measurement and density. Learning really can be fun!!! For more photos click here.
