Grants to St. Mary's

We have been very successful in applying for grants and receiving funding for the school. Grant monies are an important and necessary factor in helping us achieve our goals – grants provide us with the little extras that make our school special.

In August 2016, the Mid-American Dairy Council awarded us $1,000 for two high speed blenders for smoothies for the students as part of the "Fuel up to Play 60" program.

In July 2016, the Papio Missouri Natural Resources District (NRD) donated $1,000 for materials to maintain the outdoor Environmental Discovery Lab.

In June 2016,we received our sixth $500 grant from the State Farm Insurance Good Neighbor Grant Program, which is available to non-profit organizations for which State Farm associates complete a minimum of 40 volunteer hours in a calendar year.

In May 2016, through Omaha Gives, the Omaha Community Foundation gave St. Mary's $2,511.85.

In February 2016 Bellevue Shopko Manager, Tim Olson presented St. Mary's School Science teacher Mrs. Thompson with a grant for $350 to support the school's Science programs.

In October 2015, the Archdiocese of Omaha, OAEF grant awarded us $200 for a sensory garden project.

In July 2015, we received our fifth $500 grant from the State Farm Insurance Good Neighbor Grant Program, which is available to non-profit organizations for which State Farm associates complete a minimum of 40 volunteer hours in a calendar year.

In May 2015, through Omaha Gives, the Omaha Community Foundation gave St. Mary's $3,580.

In April 2015 the Cornhusker Motor Club Foundation awarded us a grant of $497 to put many new books on the shelves in the school library

In March 2015 the Koch Foundation awarded us a grant of $10,000 for the Adopt A Student Program for the 2015-2016 school year.

In February 2015 Monsignor Mark Rowan announced that Our Lady of Peace Catholic Community (Offutt AFB) will offer "The Archbishop Timothy Broglio Scholarship" of $6,000 each to both St. Mary's and St. Matthew's Schools for tuition assistance for active duty military dependents seeking enrollment in our schools for the 2015-2016 school year.

In February 2015 Target donated $1,000 as a gift for the school library.

In February 2015 Bellevue Shopko awarded St. Mary's School $250 that will go towards the 4th and 5th grade field trip to Platte River State Park.

In December 2014 the Greater Omaha Chapter of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association awarded Mrs. Sweeting, our technology teacher a $1,000 grant as one of the noteworthy science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) programs in the Omaha Metropolitan area. Mrs. Sweeting will use the grant to purchase 3 CEENBoT robots for the middle school STEM program. This is Mrs. Sweeting's third year to receive this grant for supplies for the technology program.

In September 2014 a donor donated $300 for our 1st ever digital billboards advertising St. Mary's School.

In August 2014 a donor donated $591.80 for user licenses for our new servers.That enabled us to get our network and servers up to the latst and greatest standards.

In 2014 Target donated $2,000 towards having an Author come to the Library.

In June 2014 the St. Thomas Aquinas School Assistant Grant from the Archbishop's Annual appeal was awarded to St. Mary's School. The grant of $5,000 will be used to provide professional development opportunities for teachers.Teachers will participate in a technology workshop on September 29 to learn more about integrating a mimio and document camera into classroom instruction. The money will also be used for teacher training for Math Acuity.

In June 2014 we received our fourth $500 grant from the State Farm Insurance Good Neighbor Grant Program, which is available to non-profit organizations for which State Farm associates complete a minimum of 40 volunteer hours in a calendar year. The money was used for a "Listening Center."

In May 2014, through Omaha Gives, the Omaha Community Foundation gave St. Mary's $750. The donation was divided among the teachers for needed items in their classrooms.

In March 2014 Bellevue Shopko awarded St. Mary's School $500 that will go towards the purchase of document cameras for the classrooms.

In December 2013 the Greater Omaha Chapter of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association awarded Mrs. Sweeting, our technology teacher a $1,000 grant as one of the noteworthy science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) programs in the Omaha Metropolitan area. Mrs. Sweeting will use the grant to purchase Arduino Boards. They are an open-source electronics prototyping platform which budding electrical engineers can program to control lights and motors.

In September 2013 the Omaha Archdiocesan Educational Foundation gave St. Mary's School $300 for a student service project that will provide "Sewing for Seniors."

In September 2013 Target sent St. Mary's School our 2013 "Take Charge of Education" check for almost $694. Our middle school students will be getting 8 new chairs thanks to parents, parishioners, teachers and other supporters of St. Mary's School who use their REDcard.

In September 2013 The Catholic Daughters donated $3,038 for the Rover, a cart that transforms the classroom into a high tech learning experience with a smartboard, projector and computer.

These grants help us maintain our environmental science laboratory, a great hands-on learning resource for our students.

In July 2013 we received our third $500 grant from the State Farm Insurance Good Neighbor Grant Program, which is available to non-profit organizations for which State Farm associates complete a minimum of 40 volunteer hours in a calendar year.

In June 2013 The Archdiocese of Omaha awarded St. Mary's $2,500 for improved security on new doorlocks for the office and classrooms.

In April 2013 Two grants totaling $3,250 were awarded to Peg Kallman and Cindy Menzel from Explore Learning for Reflex Math, an internet based program used to improve students Math Fact Fluency.

In February 2013 Bellevue Shopko awarded St. Mary's School $250 that will go towards the purchase of microscopes for the 7th grade Science Lab.

In January 2013 Target awarded us a Field Trip Grant for $600 so the 4th and 5th graders could go to the Platte River State Park.

In January 2013 Mrs. Sweeting received one of seven Greater Omaha Chapter of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) $1,000 teaching grants. Mrs. Sweeting has purchased three CEENBoT robots for her STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) class who are interested in programming.

In January 2013 St. Mary's School will have a new roof thanks to the $45,000 grant received from the Ken and Ann Stinson Foundation and donations from very generous parishioners for the remaining $50,000+ which successfully complete the funding for this much needed project.

In December 2012 St. Mary's School won an IPAD ($500 value) and a SMART Board ($3,000 value) from Hy-Vee and Proctor & Gamble by winning a contest they sponsored.

In September 2012 we won 10,000 box tops (which is equivalent to $1,000) from the Avery Contest.That money will go towards a Mimio and Mimio pad which can be used in all classrooms. When used with Mimio Teach, any white board becomes a computer display and input device that the students and teachers can use anywhere in the classroom.

In September 2012 we earned 12- $25.00 Gift Cards from the Target Contest, and then an anonymous donor gave $100 so that each of our 16 teachers would receive a $25 Gift Card from Target.

In June 2012 we received another $500 from the State Farm Insurance Good Neighbor Grant, which is available to non-profit organizations for which State Farm associates complete a minimum of 40 volunteer hours in a calendar year.

In February 2012 Bellevue Shopko awarded St. Mary's School $500 towards a Mimio and Mimio pad which can be used in all classrooms. When used with Mimio Teach, any white board becomes a computer display and input device that the students and teachers can use anywhere in the classroom. The Mimio Teach is portable, and will be used in conjunction with the laptops and projectors purchased through the Auction's Fill-A-Need.

In December 2011 St. Mary's School won an IPAD ($500 value) and a SMART Board ($3,000 value) from Hy-Vee and Proctor & Gamble.  We installed the SMART Board in the 3rd grade classroom.

In December 2011, Target awarded St. Mary's School $700 for a field trip.  The 4th grade will take a trip to Lincoln, Nebraska.

November 2011- Thanks to generous donations from ConAgra, The Peter Kiewit Foundation, and The Lincoln Financial Group Opera Omaha presents a special student matinee of Hansel and Gretel. The Nebraska Arts Council gives St. Mary's School a School Bus Arts Grant to cover bus expenses. The grants total over $2,000 and provide 117 students from Kindergarten through 5th grade a Day at the Opera.

October 2011, We Win Again! The Second $25,000 from the September Pepsi Contest will be used for the Mobile Technology Lab. The grant monies will provide a number of laptops and a portable SMART Board with a projector. This equipment will be shared among several classrooms, making this interactive technology more available to the teachers and students than it is today.

In September 2011, St. Mary's School Wins $25,000 from the Pepsi Refresh Project! This coming January thanks to Pepsi, and a pulling together of our community, St. Mary's schoolchildren and the Bellleuve community at large will take their first steps on a brand new Teraflex Gym floor.

In December 2010 we received a SMART Board ($3,000 value) from Hy-Vee and Proctor & Gamble, by winning a contest they sponsored. We installed the SMART Board in our Science Lab.

In December 2009 we received a SMART Board ($3,000 value) from Hy-Vee and Proctor & Gamble, after finishing second in a contest they sponsored. Despite being the runner-up, because we were so competitive they awarded us the same prize as the winner received. We installed the SMART Board in our Computer Lab.

In 2004 the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum donated $2,900 to further develop the Environmental Discovery Lab, located at the front and side of the school's main entrance.

In 2003 the Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) donated $2,500 for the trees on the hillside arboretum just south of the school playground.

In 1997 the Nebraska Arts Council provided funding for an Artist in Residence to augment our creative arts program.

We are continuing to do all that we can to help raise funds to keep improving our school for our students and teachers.

St Mary's Information

St. Mary's Catholic School is a Pre-Kindergarten through Eighth Grade School of the Archdiocese of Omaha. Our mission is to provide a Catholic education that nurtures students' hearts and minds to become servant leaders in an ever-changing world.

Our philosophy of education is to offer a five-day program to assist families in teaching those truths, skills, and ideals, which are necessary for Christian living. We believe that education must develop the faculties and abilities of the whole child: spiritually, intellectually, physically, and emotionally. To help achieve this, our faculty and staff are an integral part of the formation of Christian community and dedicate themselves to the task of developing Christian citizens.
