BillingsI have been volunteering in the lunchroom since my oldest, Callie was in kindergarten. She is now a sophomore at Gross Catholic High School. Her younger sister, Jaycee, now a freshman at Gross, used to tag along with me to the lunchroom and play hide n seek in the boxes. Once Jaycee started school full time I was working at St. Mary's and assisting in the lunchroom. I have been the lunchroom director since 2014, but overall I have been involved in the lunch and breakfast program for 11 years. It has been an adventure. I have met many wonderful volunteers and worked with many people. You get to see a different side of the children in the lunchroom and it is always fun and interesting. I have learned what lunches are popular and what ones the kids do not like. You would be surprised to know hot dogs are not all that popular. Pizza days are the busiest but french toast sticks and Salisbury steak are right up there. It can be a messy job but well worth it.

Billings

Becky has been a teaching assistant at St. Mary's since 2007 working with grades Pre-K through 5th grade. She loves working with  younger children where she watches students progress from being barely able to write 1or 2 sentences with spelling words in 20 minutes go to writing 2 page stories. Becky also loves going to church on Sunday and seeing the students going up to communion. She says, "They look over and see me and my family and they will wave and say "Hi Mrs. Billings" like they can't believe they have seen me here." The students are used to seeing her everywhere. She started getting involved at St. Mary's in the lunchroom when her youngest daughter was in Pre-K. It blossomed from there. She helps with the Annual Children's Benefit Auction, Halloween Fun Night, clean ups, the fireworks stand, and Arrows to Aerospace Parade, and her husband Cory also coaches basketball. "I think if the kids see parents helping and serving the school and parish they then understand how important it is for them to give back and serve their community too. St. Mary's only runs because of the great people that volunteer their time to make it what it is which is the best school and church around!" Becky and her husband, Cory's two daughters have attended St. Mary's school since they were in Pre-K. Callie graduated in 2015 and Jaycee will graduate in 2016.

Lora has been working as a teacher assistant at St. Mary's School since 2002. She enjoys helping out with all the grades but spends most of her time with the Pre-K and Kindergarten classes. "It never ceases to amaze me to see where these little children are at the beginning of the school year going from struggling to write their name and then to compare with where they end up at the end of the year with their printing, coloring, and reading!"

Lora has been a member of St. Mary's Parish her entire life. She and her husband Ron were married at St. Mary's Church and have 3 children, all of which have attended St. Mary's School. Their oldest graduated from Mercy High School in May of 2015 and is getting ready to start college. They also have a daughter who is a Junior at Mercy. Their son is in 8th grade at St. Mary's School. "We know our children have been given an excellent education at St. Mary's School along with a beautiful daily spiritual experience."

She also enjoys volunteering with the Annual Children's Benefit Auction, bake sales, Project H.O.P.E. program, children's liturgy at Sunday Mass, and in her spare time enjoys reading, playing the piano and spending time with her family.

LaneyThis is Mrs. Laney's 12th year as the School Nurse at St. Mary's School. Although she is employed at Midlands Hospital, she comes to St. Mary's every Tuesday without charging the school as part of their community outreach. Mrs. Laney received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Clarkson College of Nursing. She is an 81' Graduate of St. Mary's School, got married at St. Mary's Church, and her parents have been long time members of the church. Mrs. Laney loves the community, the kids and the families. In fact, she says several kids she went to school with at St. Mary's are now parents, and she is taking care of their children. She says that's always fun. So was being able to see her Mom every Tuesday when her Mom, Mrs. Kibler was the Director of Extended Day Care at St Mary's.

I have worked in extended day as a worker for 3 years; this is my fourth year, but first as director. I love working here, I love the kids and their families, and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else! I have two boys, Brandon & Joshua, who used to attend St. Mary's. I can't explain how excited I am that I get to start a new chapter in my life with all of you! I do have plans to make some changes to the program experience, but I also want to keep some of the wonderful work that Kathy has had in place. I'll be working with children, parents and Mrs.Wallinger to make this a memorable and fun time for all.

St Mary's Information

St. Mary's Catholic School is a Pre-Kindergarten through Eighth Grade School of the Archdiocese of Omaha. Our mission is to provide a Catholic education that nurtures students' hearts and minds to become servant leaders in an ever-changing world.

Our philosophy of education is to offer a five-day program to assist families in teaching those truths, skills, and ideals, which are necessary for Christian living. We believe that education must develop the faculties and abilities of the whole child: spiritually, intellectually, physically, and emotionally. To help achieve this, our faculty and staff are an integral part of the formation of Christian community and dedicate themselves to the task of developing Christian citizens.
