Stacey Schutt

Artist in Residence 1994-2018

Mrs. Stacey Schutt taught art and core classes at St. Mary's from 1994-2018. Previous to that she taught grades K-3 for two years in a two room country school house. The Omaha Summer Arts Festival named Mrs. Schutt "Art Teacher of the Year" in 2010. Mrs. Schutt has a Bachelor of Science Degree from Dana College where she majored in Elementary Education with a second major in Art. She says, "Teaching art and creativity helps kids think outside the box. It helps with problem-solving skills, and helps bring creativity into their writing and classroom projects. Making art also gives them a sense of accomplishment." These skills go with them long past their school years. She noticed in the last few years at St. Mary's, that many St. Mary's School alumni pursue art related majors in college.

Her husband's name is Bob and they have two daughters, Wendy Schutt and Caitlin Lewis - who is married to Tim Lewis (a St. Mary's alum and son of St. Mary's kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Lewis). Mrs. Schutt is a proud grandma who loves spending time with her grandchildren. 

 

Jennifer Thompson

Middle School Science Teacher, 6th Grade Social Studies Teacher, 7th grade Religion Teacher, and 7th Grade Homeroom 2017

Thompson

Mrs. Jennifer Thompson taught middle school Science, 6th grade Social Studies, 7th grade Religion, and 7th grade homeroom at St. Mary's until 2017. She is a graduate from Colorado State University where she earned a degree in History and a minor in Biology. She received her Master's Degree from College of St. Mary's in the Art of Teaching. She has taught at St. Margaret Mary in Omaha and Ralston Middle School in both science and social studies. Prior to that, Mrs. Thompson was a paraprofessional for the Papillion - La Vista school district in Special Education. She enjoys working with middle school students best, she says she likes their high energy and challenging their emerging critical thinking skills. She tries to engage students in hands-on activities and inquiry investigation. She also frequently takes part in workshop that focus on social studies and reading.

Mrs. Thompson and her husband of 16 years, John, are the proud parents of two children who attended St. Mary's. During her free time, Mrs. Thompson enjoys reading, cooking, and traveling. 

 

Becky Feagan

4th Grade Teacher 1994-2015

Feagan

Mrs. Becky Feagan taught 4th grade at St. Mary's for 21 years, from 1994-2015. She has lived in the area since 1966 and considers Bellevue her home, despite being born in Germany. Growing up in a military family and moving around a lot led to her love of history and the outdoors. She loved sharing that love of history with her 4th graders by teaching them about Nebraska and talking of her experiences while camping along the Lewis and Clark Trail for 4 weeks and various other scout camps throughout the U.S. Mrs. Feagan says her scouting career led her to earn her teaching degree which she received from Peru State College. She also has 24 additional hours of graduate work. She was honored with the "Who's Who Among Teachers" for 2005-2006. Mrs. Feagan and her husband of 38 years, Doug, have three sons - all of whom graduated from St. Mary's School and all Eagle scouts. Mrs. Feagan has been a scout leader for 25+ years. In her free time she enjoys studying history, photography, camping, and traveling to see how God has blessed this land with great beauty.

 

 

Linda Sweeting

Technology Specialist 2006-2015

Sweeting

Mrs. Linda Sweeting was St. Mary's technology specialist teaching computer classes for grades K-8th for 10 years. She taught for 20 years in Catholic schools from St. John's in the Lincoln Diocese, to Christ the King and St. Wenceslaus in Omaha, before coming to St. Mary's. "I fell in love with teaching in a Catholic school- living and sharing my faith, the real sense of living in community- that I never looked back and have taught in Catholic schools exclusively."

Mrs. Sweeting graduated from UNL with a Bachelor's of Science in Education and has a provisional certificate in Middle School Math and Science and an IT endorsement. She has taught middle school science, religion, language arts, and math as well as 1st, 4th, and 5th grades. 

 

 

 

Michelle Middendorf

Kindergarten Teacher 2012-2015 Middendorf

Mrs. Michelle Middendorf taugh Kindergarten at St. Mary's School from 2012-2015. She graduated from the University of Nebraska Omaha with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. She began her teaching career at St. Mary's in 2012. The military brought Mrs. Middendorf and her husband, Dustin, to Nebraska in 2008 along with their three children: Makenzie, Taylen, and Macie. Two of their children even attended St. Mary's School. In her free time, she enjoys reading, traveling, spending time with her family, and coaching basketball & softball.  

 

 

 

Cheryl Shanker

Counselor, Middle School Social Studies Teacher, Sixth Grade Homeroom Teacher 2014

ShankerMrs. Cheryl Shanker was St. Mary's School Counselor, middle school Social Studies, and 6th grade homeroom teacher until 2014. She graduated from the College of St. Mary's with a Bachelor's of Arts Degree in History and a Specialist Endorsement in Social Science. Mrs. Shanker completed her Master's of Science work in Guidance and Counseling at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO). She has continued her post graduate studies at UNO, Creighton, and Lehigh University in Pennsylvania. Mrs. Shanker is also a Freedoms Foundation Scholar and has traveled the Freedom Trail.

Mrs. Shanker has served on several Archdiocesan Social Studies Committees including: Curriculum Development, Textbook Selection, and Outcome Based Education. She is a member of the Catholic School Counselors Committee, Phi Alpha Theta (National History Fraternity), and Phi Delta Gamma (National Graduate Honor Society.) She has taught at Sacred Heart in Sioux City, St. Richards, Holy Ghost, Our Lady of Lourdes in Omaha, and at St. Mary's in Bellevue. She has successfully sponsored several students in Social Studies competitions both at state and national levels.

 

 

Mary Ellen Reckmeyer

Librarian/Media Specialist 2009-2014

ReckmeyerMrs. Mary Ellen Reckmeyer is a St. Mary's School graduate who was the school's librarian and media specialist from 2009-2014. She earned a Bachelor's of Arts in English and a Teaching Certificate in Secondary Language Arts and Reading at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. Later, she earned a Master's Degree in Elementary Education and a Library Media Certificate at the University of Nebraska Omaha. Mrs. Reckmeyer has taught in several Omaha Archdiocesan schools, an Omaha public school, a Westside Community school, and a Department of Defense Dependents school in Germany. She is married to her husband, Drew, and both of her children, Ben and Lia, attended St. Mary's School.

 

 

 

 

Kelly Vincent

Middle School Math and Science Teacher, 7th Grade Homeroom Teacher 2011-2013

Mrs. Vincent joined Saint Mary's School in 2011 as the Middle School Mathematics and Science Teacher and 7th grade homeroom teacher and taught here until 2013. She attended College of Saint Mar'sy in Omaha, where she earned a Bachelor's of Science in Biology and Chemistry and a Master's of Arts in Teaching. She has completed 19 Chemistry graduate credits at the University of Nebraska Lincoln (UNL). She is a Girl Scout troop co-leader, served as a kindergarten catechist for six years, and was a teacher associate for five years at St. Columbkille Catholic School. She and her husband, Dave, have seven children and two granddaughters.

St. Mary's Catholic School is a Pre-Kindergarten through Eighth Grade School of the Archdiocese of Omaha. Our mission is to provide a Catholic education that nurtures students' hearts and minds to become servant leaders in an ever-changing world.

Our philosophy of education is to offer a five-day program to assist families in teaching those truths, skills, and ideals, which are necessary for Christian living. We believe that education must develop the faculties and abilities of the whole child: spiritually, intellectually, physically, and emotionally.
