Mrs. Harms has been involved with preschool programs for the past fifteen years.  During that time, she worked with four year old preschool programs in Ohio for eleven years before moving to Omaha four years ago with her family.  Most recently, she worked at the  St. Vincent de Paul preschool.

Mrs. Lewis graduated from Creighton University in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. She has been teaching Kindergarten for 33 years and is excited to be back "home" again at St.Mary's! Mrs. Lewis and her husband, Mark have 9 children, all of whom are graduates of St. Mary's. She enjoys reading and quilting and spending time with her family and grandsons.

Ms. Gaspers is a graduate of the College of St. Mary, Omaha and has continuing education credits from the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO), Creighton and Peru State College. Ms. Gaspers began her teaching career at St. Mary's teaching 6th, 3rd, combination 4th/5th and 1st grades. She says, "Being a part of the reading process is an exciting journey that I look forward to each year." That's only part of what she looks forward to, she says, "I am blessed every year to share my faith journey with my students and equally blessed that they share their journey with each other and me." When she is not teaching, Ms. Gaspers enjoys reading, gardening, traveling and hanging out with her nieces and nephews.

Sobilo

Mrs. Sobilo came to St. Mary's in 1990. One year they needed an additional third grade teacher, so I was promoted for a year!!! Other than that one year she has been teaching second grade. What keeps her at St. Mary's? "I love being able to teach children and share my faith with them at the same time." Prior to coming to Bellevue, she was the Director of Religious Education at Rhein Main Air Base, Germany. Mrs. Sobilo has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Peru State, plus 34 graduate hours in special education, curriculum and administration. She and her husband Dave have been married since 1973. They have two wonderful children - Kelly & Sean, and a very active Border collie named Shannon. Mrs. Sobilo grew up on the East Coast, but now calls Nebraska home.

Diane Embury

121084Mrs. Embury has been teaching 3rd grade at St. Mary's since 1990. She says, " Third grade is such a fun grade. We pray together, play together, and learn together." It is an ideal setting to develop a strong faith and academic foundation. Both her daughters are graduates of St. Mary's. Mrs. Embury earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education with a Biology minor from Mt. Mercy College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and has graduate hours from UNO, Wayne State, and Creighton. Her teaching experience has been in the Catholic School System working with 3rd through 8th grades at St. Rose of Lima in Denison, Iowa, St. Philip Neri in Omaha, and St. Mary's in Bellevue. She continues to attend workshops in a variety of areas including reading, math, and technology. Mrs. Embury enjoys flower gardening, baking, and wool stitchery projects in her free time.

Jankovich

Miss Jankovich (Miss J) has been teaching in the Archdiocese of Omaha schools for over 20 years. Previously she taught at St. Bernadette and St. Columbkille. This is her first year at St. Mary's, 2015-2016. Miss Jankovich graduated from UNO with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education. Miss J. has taught Kindergarten, 3rd grade, 5-6th grade, Jr. High (Social Studies), and K-8 Computer Classes. She is excited to teach 4th grade, especially Religion, Reading, and Social Studies. Miss J. was raised in South Omaha along with her 11 brothers and sisters. She enjoys spending time with them, their families and her parents, both of whom are "master storytellers" and encouraged her to be the same. Miss J. was raised with a strong love of faith, reading and history. "Everyone has a story, whether it is in a textbook or passed down through family stories. I encourage a classroom environment where everyone can tell their unique story about their journey as children of God." Miss J continues to develop her skills by attending workshops for Reading, Math, Writing, or whatever the topic may be. She is a lifelong learner and hopes to inspire her students to do the same.

Cindy Menzel

Menzel

Mrs. Cindy Menzel is thrilled to be teaching fifth grade! She is a graduate of Midland Lutheran College with a major in Elementary Education and a minor in Special Education. She earned her Master's Degree from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln (UNL), in Special Education. Mrs. Menzel has experience teaching several different grade levels in Columbus, NE and the Bellevue Public Schools. She was a long-time substitute teacher for St. Mary's School prior to joining the faculty in 2007. Mrs. Menzel and her husband Ted have been active members of St. Mary's Parish since 1985, and are proud parents of three St. Mary's graduates who attended school here from Pre-K through 8th grade.

Kastl

Mr. John Kastl is very excited to be teaching middle school at St. Mary's! He holds a Bachelor of Science in Education degree with an endorsement in Mathematics from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He is Catholic and puts Christ at the forefront of his life. In college, he was very involved in the Newman Center and looks forward to being a part of our St. Mary's faith community.

Mr. William Patterson comes to us with a great deal of experience and expertise. His most recent assignment was in the Hooker Public Schools in Hooker, Oklahoma. His background includes both academic and coaching experience. He is married and he and his wife have 2 children.

Sheridan

For the last ten years, Miss Sheridan has taught middle school at St. Mary's. Her teaching responsibilities include religion for the seventh and eighth graders as well as literature and language arts for the seventh and eighth graders. She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Mount Marty College with majors in Elementary Education and Religious Education. Her Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction was earned through Doane College. Miss Sheridan has taught in Catholic schools since 1983. She says, "Although I spend a good deal of my day making sure students know how to write and enjoy literature, I choose to teach in a Catholic school because I want my students to develop a strong relationship with God. I have the opportunity to bring faith into the classroom all day and in everything we do. I am blessed to have that opportunity."

Schutt

Mrs. Schutt has been teaching Art and core classes at St. Mary's since the 1994-1995 school year. Previous to that she taught  grades K-3 for two years in a two room country school house. The Omaha Summer Arts Festival named Mrs. Schutt "Art Teacher of the Year" 2010. Mrs. Schutt has a Bachelor of Science Degree from Dana College where she majored in Elementary Education with a second major in Art. She says, "Teaching art and creativity helps kids think outside the box. It helps with problem solving skills, and helps bring creativity into their writing and classroom projects." Mrs. Schutt says, "Making art also gives them a sense of accomplishment." These skills go with them long past their school years. She has noticed in the last few years several St. Mary's alumni are pursuing art related majors in college.

Mrs. Schutt commutes from Gretna every day to St. Mary's. Her husband's name is Bob and they have two daughters: Wendy Schutt, and Caitlin Lewis, who is married to Tim Lewis (a St. Mary's alum). Tim and Caitlin have two sons which makes me a proud grandma.

Being a member of a family of 12 children, one really has to work hard to stand out and be noticed. Peg Kallman accomplished this by being a Drama Queen from the age of two years old. Her father was in the US Army, and they traveled a lot while growing up. Peg entertained everyone along the way!

She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Saint Mary College in Leavenworth, Kansas with majors in Music and Theatre. Upon graduation, Peg ran Cornucopia Theatre, a successful children's theater touring company in Kansas City, Missouri. After returning to the Omaha area in 1986, she worked for a number of years as a costumer for Ibsen Costume Gallery, Ballet Omaha, and the Omaha Community Playhouse. Peg was the Costume Designer for Creighton University's Dance and Theatre departments for three years along with costuming, directing and music directing several community theatre plays and musicals in the area. In keeping with her Drama Queen title, she appeared on stage in the Omaha area in many plays and musicals.

An active member of St. Mary's Parish from 1973, Peg has been a cantor here since she was 16 years old. She began her teaching career at St. Mary's School in 2000. Shortly after coming to St. Mary's School, she earned her Nebraska Teaching Certificate. Peg is responsible for having created the Drama program at the school. Now she is training the Drama Queens and Kings of the future!

Mrs. Sjostedt graduated from the College of St. Elizabeth in Convent Station, New Jersey. She earned a degree in Elementary and Special Education with a Certificate of Proficiency in Spanish. Mrs. Sjostedt continued to complete her Master's Degree Program in Human Development from Fairleigh Dickinson University, also in New Jersey. She taught for 12 years in public schools, including 5 years for the Department of Defense in Japan and Germany. In 2006, Mrs. Sjostedt began teaching Spanish and Resource classes at St. Mary's School. "I had always wanted to teach in a Catholic School and share my Catholic faith with all children. To be able to attend Mass and pray daily in school is a gift." She has since earned her Spanish Language Endorsement K-12 from Nebraska Wesleyan University. Mrs. Sjostedt teaches Pre K through 4th grade Spanish once a week for 30 minutes. 5th and 6th grade Spanish meet twice a week. 7th and 8th grade Spanish begin Level 1 High School Spanish utilizing the book, Avancemos. www.avancemos.com (Holt-McDougal) She is also the Chess Coach Sponsor and Right to Life Coordinator.
Mrs. Sjostedt has 5 children, 4 of whom graduated from St. Mary's School.

Miss Schafer is a product of Catholic schools in Omaha, from Holy Cross to Mercy to Creighton University, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Education. She has taught in the Omaha Archdiocese for over 20 years, teaching grades 1-5. She loves the freedom of living her faith and being able to share it with all her students. When she isn't teaching, Miss Schafer can be found reading, traveling, practicing her photography, and gardening.

HugMrs. Hug has her Bachelor of Science Degree from UNO. She has a K-12 endorsement in Physical Education. She has taught at several Catholic schools in the Omaha metro area. She taught at St. Ann's School 1 year, St. Mary's School in Omaha 3 years, Holy Ghost, 25 years, and St. Mary's School in Bellevue 6 years. Currently she splits her time between St. Peter's and Paul and St. Mary's School. Over the years Mrs. Hug has also taught health and math. Currently she is teaching Physical Education for Pre-K –8th grades. Mrs. Hug enjoys the caring, supportive and friendly atmosphere at St. Mary's as well as the dedicated faculty and staff. Mrs. Hug is a Member of St. Peter's and Paul in Omaha. She is married to Dan and they have three daughters and a beautiful 3 year old grandson named Tyson. Just call her "ME MA". Her hobbies are playing volleyball, walking and spending time outdoors, and spending time with her family.
