Welcome to your final year at St. Mary's. You've been working toward this year all through your years at St. Mary's. You are the new leaders of our school, and we believe you are up to the challenge of being role models for our younger students.
This year you will receive your final initiation sacrament into the Catholic Church. This is an important step in your faith journey. I pray that you will be open to the Holy Spirit as you seek to deepen your relationship with God.
We will be exploring a variety of novels and other literary works through the year. I hope you find them interesting as well as challenging. My hope for you is that when you leave St. Mary's you will have developed a love for reading. There are so many good books just waiting to be opened.
Along with reading, you will be doing a fair amount of writing through the year. This writing will take a variety of formats and will challenge you to use your grammar skills as well as your creativity and knowledge. The writing you do here will help you as you prepare to move on to high school.
Eighth grade is an exciting time, and I am blessed to share this special year with you. It's such a joy to watch you grow academically, socially, and spiritually. May God bless you abundantly as you go through the ups and downs of the year!!
